Racism in U.S.

Here's a little history question for all Americans and scholars of American history: What is the foundation of the U.S.?
ANSWER: Immigration.

The U.S. was created because of immigrants and exiles. We are the only nation in the whole wide world that is comprised of mulitudes of races. Our population is made up of all the colors God deemd fit for humans. We are a quilt of colors, customs, and cultures.

Another question: Why is there racism in a country founded on immigration?
ANSWER: none.

This inquiry may naive. I am coscious of the natural human tendency to classify, stereotype, and deem themselves superior to others.

My professor recently informed me that there's more rascists in the U.S. than blacks. Memory seemed expand my mind. I suddenly remembered how in Michigan, the other writers (who were white) kept their distance from the only woman with curves on the camp grounds. I recalled how in Argentina how a man darker than me called my friend and I "Caballos negros" (black horses). And I certainly cannot forget the security guards stalking me everytime I shop at Bergdorf Goodman, Louis Vuitton, or Prada.

Hey Cynthia,

I went to your blogspot and wanted to encourage you chica to keep asking those questions that everyone avoids. I had to come back here and support the dialogue and difference you're trying to make in this over arching discussion about immigration.

You're right, this country was founded on the backs of immmigrants. Is it funny how quickly this country forgets that, READ: WHITE USA, but let's also acknowledge the Latinos that were born here and other people of color that quickly forget how we came here as well. This country finds itself at a moment were the Latino population is exploding and that becomes a fear factor for EVERYONE. Instead of us all working together, READ: People of color, often times borders are put up between us. Us all believing that if one group succeeds the other won't. This division among people of color, also has history through IMMIGRATION laws that didn't exist until POC started crossing the borders of this monster country we live in called the USA. Also, there is a history of poor whites and Black folks being divided in a battle called BACON'S REBELLION where white folks (mostly Irish) were coming to the USA as indetured servants and they started organizing with Black slaves against the overseer's. When the RICH White folks got wind of this, guess what happenend? The indentured servants were freed in an effort to ease their organizing with Black folks, because after all they were free now and had no need to fight. I feel a similar thing is now happening between immigrant Latinos (and let us not forget our Asian brothers and sister that are often invisible to this entire conversation) and Peeople of color that were born here (black, Latino, etc). This issue needs to be ALL of our issues whether or not we were raised in this loco country. Feel me?

VERY GOOD WRITING, YOU JUST HAVE TO UNDERSTAND IMPERIALISM AND ITS FOUNDATIONS. LOOK INTO THE PAST OF IMPERIAL COUNTRIES SUCH AS ENGLAND, FRANCE, AND ALSO SPAIN WHICH WOULD PERTAIN DIRECTLY TO YOU BEING OF LATIN DECENT . AND ALSO LOOK AT THE ROMAN EMPIRE &AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. BY VIEWING THE PRACTICES OF THESE ENTITIES YOU CAN GET A LARGER INSIGHT INTO RACISM AND WHY MANY ARE OPRESSED
